Race Day

Race Information for participants:

Club Name:  Cooley Kickhams GFC

Date of Race/Walk/ Cycle:  Cooley Coast Run, Fri 12th May


There are two races, a 10k race and a 5k run/walk.  The courses start and finish outside Cooley Kickhams GFC.

Start time:  7pmPlease ensure you arrive in plenty of time to collect your racepack, get changed and warmed up.  

Start & finish Location:  Outside the Cooley Kickhams club grounds

When do I get my race number? 

It will be in your racepack. 

Racepacks can be collected from the Cooley Kickhams complex on Thursday 11th May from 7pm to 9pm.  They can also be collected on Friday 12th May (race day) from 2pm to 6.30pm, however we would appreciate it if you could collect your racepack before 6pm.

If collecting your race pack on race day at the complex, please note they must be collected no later than 30 mins before start time to allow time to enter the electronic chip details on the computer.  They will NOT be posted.

Can I walk? 

Yes.  Walkers are welcome to walk the 5k race, but they must start from the back of the group of runners.

What are the cut off times?  

Online registration closes at midnight on Thursday 11th May.  Application forms will be accepted up to one hour before the race. 

Can I give my number to another participant? 

You cannot give your race number to another participant under any circumstances.

What does entry fee include?

Your racepack which contains the following:

- your race number with an electronic timing chip

- safety pins

- a snack

All the usual race support along the route such as water stations along the route and First Aid on course and at the finish.

What are the entry limits? 

The Cooley Coast Run is limited to a maximum of 1,000 participants.

Can I drive to the start? 

Yes.  Car Parking facilities will be provided in the Cooley Kickhams club grounds and in Crillys yard which is next door.  Please note all cars parked anywhere on the route or at the finish area will be removed. 

What do I need to bring with me?

You should bring some 'post-race' clothing with you.  Soup and sandwiches will be available afterwards at no charge, but you should bring any specific requirements for your own needs with you. 

It is not recommended that any valuables or personal belongings are left in the club house.  The club accepts no responsibility for any property lost, mislaid or stolen, on the course or at the changing facilities. 

Race Number

Your race number must be clearly displayed on the front of your top or you will not be allowed to participate.   Use the safety pins provided in your racepack to attach the race number to the front of your top.

Are there mile / kilometer markers?

Yes .

What do I get at the finish?

You will receive a custom designed finishers medal, a banana and a bottle of water at the finish line.  Free soup and sandwiches will also be available.

The bar will be open upstairs in the Cooley Kickhams clubrooms afterwards if anyone wishes to have a quiet drink and view the results!

Are there age category prizes?

Yes, we have the following prize categories:

Categories for the 10k

Male: 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

Female: 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

Over 40, over 45, over 50: Male 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

Over 40, over 45, over 50: Female 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

Categories for the 5k

1st, 2nd and 3rd for both Men and Women

The top 3 in each category will receive plaques.  However cash prizes will only be given for the top 3 in the 10k for Male/Female.

Are ipods and mp3 players permitted ?

Cooley Kickhams strongly advise against the use of an Ipod / Earphone or a similar device whilst participating in the event.  You may not be able to hear instructions or safety warnings from our stewards.  Be aware that even closed roads will have course vehicles and emergency vehicles passing competitors.  IF YOU CANNOT HEAR, YOU ARE IN DANGER.

We must keep Ireland Clean!

Please make our volunteers' jobs easier by discarding your cups at the mile markers (and not in ditches, streams etc), as our volunteers will have to recover these cups.  The empty cups will be recycled.

First Aid

Please report all accidents and emergencies to a race steward who will notify our first aiders.

Changing facilities

Bathroom and shower facilities are available in the Cooley Kickhams dressing rooms for both males and females.  However we would recommend that you do not leave valuables in the dressing rooms.
